Today's theme is Primorska region, which is one of the regions of Slovenia in the term of geographical definition.  In English it is also said Slovenian Littoral, but here I write Primorska region.  Primorska Region Primorska region is the same name as a term of historical region, however its territories is different from the historical one.   photo1 Look at the map. Primorska region is separated orange and yellow part. Yellow part calls flysch region , whie orange part is karst region . Flysch is a geological wide stratum, which is created by depositing impermeable sandstones. It is often seen in European alps region. As an article of Dinarska region, karst region is created impermeable rocks and limestones.  So lets check the climate of Primoska region.  Climate  Climate of Primorska region is different from inner Slovenian region. First of all there is warm climate. There are many sunny day in that region. Therefore, it suits for fruit farming and tou

Geography of Slovenia 3 : Dinarska Slovenia

Today's theme is Dinarska Slovenia region . The region is the southern Slovenia part and extends from west to east. The region contains a lot of limestone and dolomite, thus it is seen many karst features.  The region could be separated low and high areas. Low area calls  Nizke dinarske planote,  while high area calls  Visoke dinarske planote. Low part is marked by light green, while high parts is marked by dark green.  Photo1 Feature1: Karst landscape Slovenia has a lot of karst landscapes and its features in the land, but especially, Dinarska Slovenia is a famous region for karst landscape.  Karst landscape is created basically, by dissolving limestone by chemical reaction. Water does not keep on the surface, but goes down to the underground. Water goes though limestone or dolomite, and cracks them, then later create caves slowly.  Rainwater and other water on the air cause chemical reaction with CO2 on the ground. As the result of that carbonic acid is creat

Based on the term, Slovenia divides into basically Alpsle pokrajne Predalpske pokrajne Dinarske pokrajne Primorske pokrajne Panonske pokrajne     five regions!  So lets check each region's feathers. 1. Geography of Slovenia 1 : Historical division of country

Slovenia has 20,273㎢, in facet it is the same size like SHIKOKU in Japan. In Europe the twelfth smallest country, but it could be divided around 200 municipalities. As each country has the way to divide areas, Slovenia has it too. The most interesting thing is that there are two types of dividing, historically and geographically . Today I will explain the historical partition. Historical Partition  We often hear the historical term of partition in daily conversation.  For exapmle somebody asks others "Where are you from?". Then he answers "from ~ region".  We hear often from news program, radio, and tourism information too.  Mainly the regions are divided into six! Look the below.  Gorenjska   Dolenjska Notoranjska Štajerska Primorska Prekmurje Photo1 : オーストリアの区分。現代はまた異なる区分になっています。 Actually, Habsburg Monarchy, later renamed Avstria=Hungary, named and termed the regions. From the 14th century, today's Slovenian territory was o

Hungarian Revolution and Yugoslavia (2)

The Petofi Circle and the Association of Hungarian University and College Union (MEFESZ) are important organization. The Petofi Ciecle published "ten points", while the MEFESZ published the "six-teen points." Mainly their requirements were similar. 1) Imre Nagy should be a new leader in Hungarian government 2) Soviet armies should get away from Hungary 3) The government should establish new economic policy 4) The government should guarantee equal right and justice. First, students began demonstration on 23 October, 1956 to demand radio building to broadcast their points. However director refused their requests. Soon, AVH began to attack. Immediately the demonstration turned to revolution. Soviet army continued to attack in Budapest. On 28 October, the Soviet army stopped attack, then Nagy established a new government. However, when he knew that the Soviet army would come to attack in Budapest again, he sent a message to the UN on 1st November. In a message,

Hungarian revolution and Yugoslavia (1)

I wrote a paper about the Hungarian Revolution 1956.  Actually it was interesting task for me. Today I will write about the revolution. The Hungarian Revolution was the first serious revolt against the Soviet Union's communist regime after the Second World War. The aim of the revolution was to establish a new government, a new economic policy without any Soviet controls. Under the one political party and the Soviet controls, Hungarian people were always under the terror and unsecured.  Matyas Rakosi (1892-1971) conducted total dictatorship in Hungary based on the Soviet system. First of all, the Political Security Department (later re-named to AVH) was set up in Pest.Their task was to eradicate of democratic political party and intellectual work, to monitor mail and phone conversation, even private home.  Actually Hungary had mainly four political parties, such as the Hungarian Communist Party (HCP), the Independent Smallholders (Smallholders), the Social Democrats (S

A Short Trip to Opatija and Rijeka!!

Hi all! Long time no write an article in English. Anyway, I went to Opatija and Rijeka on 28 to 29 March with my mom. My mom wanted to go abroad from Ljubljana by train. but she thought we could go to abroad so easily and fast because of Slovenia is surrounded by Italy, Austria, Croatia, and Hungary. Actually it is a misunderstanding ;) If you go abroad by airplane, it is easy and fast, but if you want to go there by train, you have to know that it will take long time, and there are few trains or buses per day. Somehow I re-thought for her, because I do not know when she could visit me. Then my friend told me that Opatija is the best choice for us. The first, Opatija is close to Ljubljana and we can go there by train for 2 hours! Opatija is a popular resort for both winter and summer. Geographically Opatija is located on the Istrian Peninsula so we can eat delicious sea food. My mom dislike meat, so Opatija is the best place for us!! We can go to Opatija directly by Trai

I was surprised that he had at least 4 pianos in his life...incredible...after visited museum, we backed to hostel and visited big biiig market. Red peppers!  I saw that kind of things. In Slovenia I have never seen that kind of designs. It is sold various red peppers. Did you know that there are sweet red peppers??? I did not know that. I should try it... In Budapest, we walked whole days. Although we do not have tour guide, we could enjoy our trip!!!!
