Geography of Slovenia 5: Alps Region

Slovenian Alps Region  There is only 2% of the land, but Slovenia has alps region. The  highest mountain Trigrav is located in the region. Ski is the popular sport in Slovenia, and many people enjoy it in Alps region.  From Austria, Italy and other European countries many toursits visit to this region. I hope Asian tourists also come here because of amazing nature and view. So today I explain Slovenian Alps region. There are three alps ranges,   Julian Alps, Kamnisko-Savinske Alps, and Karavanke . These mountain rages' hight are over 2000m . It means high trees cannot grow in the mountains. Such region is called, forest limit.  Julian Alps    Julian alps is the highest alps among three alpses. The highest mountain, Trigrav's top is  2864m. Other mountains, such as Krn and Prisojnik,  are also beautiful and famous. Today's theme is Primorska region, which is one of the regions of Slovenia in the term of geographical definition.  In English it is also said Slovenian Littoral, but here I write Primorska region.  Primorska Region Primorska region is the same name as a term of historical region, however its territories is different from the historical one.   photo1 Look at the map. Primorska region is separated orange and yellow part. Yellow part calls flysch region , whie orange part is karst region . Flysch is a geological wide stratum, which is created by depositing impermeable sandstones. It is often seen in European alps region. Geography of Slovenia 3 : Dinarska Slovenia

Today's theme is Dinarska Slovenia region . The region is the southern Slovenia part and extends from west to east. The region contains a lot of limestone and dolomite, thus it is seen many karst features.  The region could be separated low and high areas. Low area calls  Nizke dinarske planote,  while high area calls  Visoke dinarske planote. Low part is marked by light green, while high parts is marked by dark green.  Photo1 Feature1: Karst landscape Slovenia has a lot of karst landscapes and its features in the land, but especially, Dinarska Slovenia is a famous region for karst landscape.  Karst landscape is created basically, by dissolving limestone by chemical reaction. Water does not keep on the surface, but goes down to the underground. Todays theme is a geographical term of Slovenia. Based on the term, Slovenia divides into basically Alpsle pokrajne   Predalpske pokrajne  Dinarske pokrajne   Primorske pokrajne  Panonske pokrajne     five regions!  So lets check each region's feathers. 1. Alpslke pokrajne/ Alps region   Blue parts on the map is Alps region.  It is located the northwestern parts of Slovenia, there are mountain chains over 1500m high,  and surrounding by valleys.  The region is categorised "Forest Line", which means that high trees can not grow. Most of mountain chains consists of lime stones, so it is called high mountain karst region (Visokogorski kras). There are tree alpses, Julian Alps, Kamink-Savinja Alps, and Karawanks. Slovenia has 20,273㎢, in facet it is the same size like SHIKOKU in Japan. In Europe the twelfth smallest country, but it could be divided around 200 municipalities. As each country has the way to divide areas, Slovenia has it too. The most interesting thing is that there are two types of dividing, historically and geographically .
